Acids and sugar are the most damaging foods for your teeth. This is because the bacteria in your mouth convert the sugar in your diet into acid. The bacteria normally do this for at least an hour before the saliva is able to neutralise this acid and return your mouth to normal. Frequency is more important than quantity when it comes to sugar in your diet. The bacteria are microscopic so they don’t need much sugar in order to start this destructive process.

If you know you are prone to tooth decay we can work together with you to help you analyse where the problems may be occurring with your diet, encouraging you to maximise the opportunities to care for your teeth through learning new habits, ensuring that your teeth are protected and will last longer.
