Orthodontics
Orthodontics is where teeth are normally straightened using removable braces, brackets and wires, and more commonly these days - clear aligners.
At the Victoria Jones Dental Studio we offer a particular type of treatment know as Functional Jaw Orthopaedics, which often incorporates a combination of the above methods depending on the particular case we are treating. The advantage of this method is that it allows us to treat patients holistically. This treatment is suitable for adults and children. Children in particular benefit from orthopaedic treatment from a young age and this can often prevent the need for tooth extractions and orthodontic treatment as teenagers.
80% of orthodontic problems worldwide are due to underdevelopment of the Maxilla - which is the upper jaw. This has the result of often giving the smile a much 'narrower' appearance and often leads to crowding and an unsightly appearance of the anterior teeth.
A side effect of this 'underdevelopment' is that it often restricts the movement of the lower jaw, which can have a detrimental effect on the Temporor-Mandibular Joint (TMJ). Side effects of this include clicking of the jaw, headaches, neck pain and shoulder pain and often in severe cases vertigo and tinnitus. Many of these symptoms start off subtly and gradually get worse as time goes by. Orthopaedic and orthodontic treatment can often relieve these symptoms.
Many patients come to us because they want their teeth to look better. We are keen to convey to them that healthy teeth look good. If they don't look good there is a good chance that the rest of your health is suffering to some degree that you may not be fully conscious of.
Our orthodontic consultations include an examination of your TMJ and the associated muscles around your head and neck. We also take study models of your teeth, arrange for analysis of your x-rays and provide a full report detailing the treatment we recommend, how long it will take and the associated costs.
The cost of the orthopaedic treatment and orthodontic treatment that we provide is spread out over the course of the treatment to help patients to budget for it.
The cost of an orthopaedic/orthodontic consultation with us is £299.
